This may also be an opportunity to devote more time to ourselves and our growth as individuals. Yoga is a practice that has much to offer us, because it promotes balance and self-knowledge. The word Yoga derives from the Sanskrit root, yuj meaning 'attach, unite'., We can simplify by saying that yoga is the union of the body with the mind and mind with the soul. Fundamentally, yoga is a practice that aims at the knowledge of our own body, mind, spirit and energies that act on them, that is, the integral development of being. Yoga is about everything the integration and feeling of deep union of the individual with everything that surrounds him and values the individual as a unified and harmonized whole within the natural process of life. It consists of an attitude and practice based on experience and not on belief. It is through a series of postures (âsanas) - and static phases of them - breathing techniques (prânâyâma), and meditation that the practitioner increases his endurance, his flexibility, increases the concentration of the body and mind. In the view of yoga the body should be well worked serving as the basis for the other stages (angas) of the yoga pathway and the âsanas should be practiced in a stable (sthira) and comfortable (sukham) way with awareness and focus on the objectives of Hatha yoga, respecting the limits of the body and achieving relaxation. In the practice of Yoga integrated in the regular classes of the Museum of the East we aim to understand and discover what yoga is for each of us in every moment of life and also travel within in search of what is in us. We breathe broadly and deeply, going far beyond the challenges that postures pose to us, respect the silence to listen to the body and appease the mind, transforming effort into a stable and comfortable presence. Alexandra Prazeres, a graduate of the University of Essex, began practicing Yoga in London in 1992 with the practice of Iyengar Yoga. Yoga teacher graduated from the Portuguese Yoga Federation. She has the Course of Yoga for Pregnant Women of Birthlight and Yoga for Children of R.Y.E. Currently complements the practice of Yoga with the study of transpersonal Psychology and Astrology, being graduated in Techniques of Transpersonal Psychology by Almasoma Institute of Transpersonal and in Astrology by Quiron.Amândio Figueiredo begins the practice of Yoga in the 60s, along with other oriental arts and practices. Founding member of the European Association of Ayurveda (UsaAA), and its effective member. Founding member and leader of several Ayurveda and Yoga institutions in Portugal and abroad. Guides and teaches Courses of Ayurveda and Yogatherapy in Educational Institutions and / or Related Associations. Yoga Teacher in the Teacher Training Course of the Portuguese Yoga-UP. Director of the Department of Ayurveda and Yogatherapy (DAYT) of the Portuguese Yoga-UP Federation. He practices consultations and clinical practice of Ayurveda and Yogatherapy in various health places. He is a guest speaker for several Seminars, Workshops and Meetings in Portugal and around the world.
